THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS SO READ IT ONLY ONCE YOU'VE WATCHED THE MOVIE.
THEME
The movie reveals the journey of Willy Wonka, the renowned chocolate making character that we all loved as kids. We see him go from a small boy who loves magic and gets involved in the world of chocolate only because of his mother. We see him how he is transformed from an innocent pure soul to the strange Wonka that we see in the previous movie.
ACTING
Playing such a hyped of character like Willy Wonka is indeed a very hard job, nonetheless Timothée Chalamet does a fine job. Besides looking so charming he also brings in so much innocence to his role. Rowan Atkinson fits into the shoes of the priest perfectly, it was so great seeing him in a comical appearance after such a long time even though it was just a special appearance. Hugh Grant is superlative as Oompa Loompa, he made the audience crave for more of his screen time than chocolate. Noodle, The Chief of police and all the other supporting actors do a good job.
STORY
Being a huge fan of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and having the read book written by Roald Dahl I was super excited for this movie. The Fantasy musical movie has a pinch of all the elements we were expecting like humour, drama and a chocolatey world. The chocolate cartel angle felt so fresh and new. The crisp story makes the fans nostalgic. On the other other hand the first time viewers will also enjoy it but will not be able to relate to the magical world of Willy Wonka which may result in them disliking the movie.
VFX AND MUSIC
The VFX in the movie were first class. The audience will start craving for chocolate too desperately after watching this movie. All the parts where a lot of graphics was required to make the world of chocolate look so real were done splendidly. To be honest I wanted to experience it first hand. The music of the movie was done like a classic matching it to the previous movies.
MY FAVOURITE SCENE
My favourite scene was the mid-credit scene where Wonka and Oompa Loompa are talking about building the factory. I could literally visualize how wonderful it is going to be. The Pure Imagination song playing in this scene took me back to my chidlhood.
VERDICT
I would give this movie 8/10. True movie lovers will enjoy this musical fantasy. Do watch it on the big screen to get the complete experience and carry some cocoa delicacies with you to curb the cravings while watching this treat.
