Salaar Movie Review

"The most violent men called one man the most violent... SALAAR!"

The Pan(Present across nation) Indian star, our one and only 'Darling' Prabhas is back with a bang! Prashant Neel and Hombale Films give the greatest comeback to Prabhas by showcasing his screen presence in the most massy form ever. Let us dive into the world of Salaar and discuss it like true movie lovers...

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS SO READ IT ONLY ONCE YOU'VE WATCHED THE MOVIE.

                                              OPENING

The movie starts off great by introducing us to the world of the protagonist- Deva. The friendship emotion and gutsy scenes sits well. The major drawback of the entire movie was the first half , as the writing falls flat and isn't able to connect with the audiences. The buildup was pretty dull and the emotional bond with the mother also doesn't sit well. The chemistry with the herione (Shruti Haasan) is pretty bland.

                                    PRABHAS AS SALAAR

Prabhas as 'Salaar Devaratha Shouryanga Raisaar' is one of the best roles portrayed by the Rebel Star. The screen presence he has is just unmatchable, Massy massy massy! The way he showcases innocence and then immediately changes his shade to the fierce brutal nature is truly commendable. The intensity in his character and the look of it does complete justice to the role. Him acting like a son of god and as a monster was my favourite scene. Him saying 'sorry" cutely to his friend after wrecking havoc is the scene which made us fall in love with him.

                                               ACTING

Prithviraj Sukumaran as the best friend/ Antagonist plays his role with utmost finesse. Having watched her other notable works in the industry Shruti Haasan felt under utilized. The mother character did not have much of an affect as she was presented better in the KGF movie. The villains including Jagapathi Babu did a normal job. Sriya Reddy was the surprise in the movie, her acting in the movie was top notch.

                                             ACTION

The Adults only rating (A Certificate) itself proves that the action in the movie is splendid. The action sequences and fight scenes were out of the box. To be honest I feel that if the director had stuck to his usual style of fast paced action with minimal slow motion shots instead of using a lot of slow motion action sequences it would have been more impactful. However the action was really good and the fight choreographers have indeed done a good job.

                             WRITING AND DIRECTION

Prashant Neel has proved that he is one of the top most directors in India with the KGF Franchise. His way of storytelling using dark themes and Hollywood level style of film making has established him with a 100% success ratio as an Indian film director. As told by him that he has taken inspiration from his previous movie 'Ugramm' to make Salaar he fails to deliver the same masterpiece. His writing falls flat in the first half of the movie and is not able to create the same magic that he created with his previous movies. Nevertheless the movie picks up from the interval block with an excellent second half and we dive into the real story only at the last 30-45 mins of the movie. The climax and post credit scene have created a huge hype and expectations for the second part of the movie.

VFX AND THE WORLD OF KHANSAAR

The city of Khansaar was created with real set pieces rather than graphics so off course it looks fascinating. The vfx in this movie was pretty minimal as most of the shots were done in real. Vfx was decent as we can expect from a normal Indian movie. The world of Khansaar was constructed in real over a set of 100 acres which took a lot of effort and the realistic feel is visible in the movie.

                             MOST IMPACTFUL SCENE

The post-credit scene was no doubt the most talked about scene from the movie. This scene has everyone waiting on the edge of their seats for the next part 'SALAAR PART 2- SHOURYANGA PARVAM'. The plot twist and revelation in this scene was exhilarating. This scene actually showed the glory of the entire movie ' SALAAR PART 1- CEASEFIRE'.

                                      SONGS AND BGM

The ost (original soundtrack) of the movie were good enough, but was not able to match with the expectation people had on Ravi Basur. Personally I find his music magnificent but I wasn't able to experience it in this movie.

                                             VERDICT

I would give movie 7.5/10. It is an action drama movie that should be watched on the big screen. A good experiment trying to take Indian cinema to the next level. Prabhas and Prashant Neel have made a blockbuster that should not be missed by cinema lovers. The bond between Deva and Varadha is indeed a treat to watch. As a fan " Please... I... Kindly... Request" you to watch this movie.
